How do I protect my PC?

Open SetupCapsule and choose Protect this PC. After the capsule is created, keep a safe copy on a USB drive, another drive, or a cloud-synced folder.

Do I need to keep SetupCapsule on the USB drive?

No. The important item is the .capsule file. After a fresh Windows install, reinstall SetupCapsule from the Microsoft Store or official website, then open the capsule.

Does it copy passwords or license keys?

No, not by default.

Why does my home screen say “Needs safe copy”?

Your capsule exists, but the only known copy is still on the same PC/system drive. Make an external safe copy so a Windows or drive failure cannot take the capsule with it.
